“I don’t like talking about giving in online services, it makes it too much about money.”

10-11-2020

In the dozens of conversations we had, and continue to have, with pastors in the UK, we’ve heard a lot of you experience concerns about the impression your church service will have on viewers. Talking about giving a lot was always something dealt with very cautiously to not create an image that the church is about money. We’ve noticed that especially since this message is mainly shown in an online stream, it associates the moment more easily with a sales message or TV pastor as the relationship with the viewers is different from physical services. We understand this concern and it has its ground in reality. It’s important your viewers don’t think you’re trying to manipulate them into giving. We’ve found in working with churches on this communication that it is best to articulate that you want to enable them to express themselves in giving. For example as an act of worship or of being part of a caring community. Giving has a powerful potential to connect human beings. In that sense talking about giving is not trying to convince unwilling people to part with their money, but providing willing givers with the opportunity, context and means to give.

Our Four Week Guidance program is tailored to each of your personal needs. If you are comfortable with talking about giving in the service we can support that, if you want to take a lighter touch we can also guide you in how to explain the benefits of Givt to your congregations.
