“How am I going to organize Christmas giving with everything being different?”

18-11-2020

Christmas giving is a vital source of income for many churches, not only in order to fund activities like toy drives or meals, but also in the wider scope of church finance for the entire year. We have seen in prior years the amounts being donated through Givt increases x3 in December as people give more generously. We also understand that Christmas has traditionally been a time when church attendance increases for those who don’t or can’t make it regularly and these people also want to give. COVID makes these traditions harder to maintain but one thing we can help with is making sure if people want to give, they can.

We spoke to our churches and found one common theme, they are being very creative in finding ways to adapt their services and Christmas activities to these changing circumstances. Churches can’t rely on the norm, even how Christmas is organised needs to be re-designed. The problem we see isn’t that you don’t have great ideas, we recognise that, it is the lack of resources.

Ideas ranging from using the QR code in a keyring to give to people in the street, using the QR code on a collection bucket or outside the church building are all great ideas to try and activate cashless giving from the general public. Within the church, special collections using the Givt QR code for toy drives / Christmas dinners and more are all some ideas which utilise the different giving methods and think about how the giver wants to be able donate.

We have the resources you need to make these ideas happen. You are not alone. We offer you full support in our innovative Four Week Guidance program where we work with you every two weeks to develop the Givt message and show you how our other churches are doing it in a fun and interactive series. We have materials and resources ready for you to use on our website and can also create anything new you can think of if we think it will help you.
